[MICEG News]: Special MICE Guests Visit Gyeonggi Province! Which part of Gyeonggi’s MICE impressed global industry professionals?

From September to October, Gyeonggi Province welcomed key figures from the global MICE industry and showcased new possibilities.

A special occasion with Europe’s MICE leaders

In late September, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization (GTO) and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) jointly hosted a successful familiarization tour (fam tour) for leading figures from Europe’s MICE industry, featuring K-MICE and unique venues.

Participants included senior officials from international conferences, associations, and PCOs, as well as editors from leading European MICE magazines. They visited major convention centers and distinctive unique venues across Gyeonggi Province, experiencing the region’s MICE facilities and infrastructure firsthand. During their visit, they attended a briefing session by GTO on Gyeonggi’s MICE policies and gained insights into the province’s infrastructure and systematic management framework.

Through the tour, participants were able to explore the possibility of hosting large-scale international conferences in Gyeonggi and discuss practical avenues for future cooperation.

Global MICE familiarization tour program

In October, GTO hosted an overseas MICE familiarization tour program, drawing participants from six countries across Europe and Asia. The participants, who had previously expressed interest in hosting events in Gyeonggi at “The Meetings Show 2025” in Singapore last April, used this visit to reaffirm the province’s potential as a prime event destination.

After arriving at Incheon International Airport, the delegates commenced their itinerary in Suwon, followed by visits to Yongin, Paju, and Goyang.

In southern Gyeonggi, they inspected the meeting and exhibition facilities at Suwon Convention Center, which was followed by a tea meeting with venue representatives to negotiate event opportunities and actively engage in a Q&A session on detailed aspects.

They then visited unique venues, including the Suwon Traditional Culture Center and the Korean Folk Village in Yongin, where they experienced programs showcasing how tradition and culture come together, further confirming their suitability as MICE venues.

The northern Gyeonggi itinerary included a tour of KINTEX's exhibition and convention facilities to explore its potential for hosting large-scale international events. Subsequently, they visited unique venues including the Asia Publication Culture & Information Center in Paju and Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang to experience firsthand the distinct cultural appeal of MICE venues in the region, offering a contrast to southern Gyeonggi.

Participant testimonials

Ferron Gray-Grae Matta Foundation President & Founder

I was truly impressed by the exhibition and conference facilities at KINTEX and Suwon Convention Center. Their large scale, state-of-the-art equipment, and modern amenities make them ideal for hosting events. The Unique Venues we visited during the FAMTOUR each had their own distinctive charm, offering diverse and memorable experiences. It was a great opportunity to gather inspiration and ideas for future event planning.

The familiarization tour offered more than just an introduction to facilities. It was a valuable opportunity for international MICE professionals to directly experience Gyeonggi’s unique appeal as a MICE destination.

They explored the scale and advanced facilities of major convention centers, along with the creativity of unique venues and their potential to seamlessly integrate local resources. Visitors responded enthusiastically to Gyeonggi’s distinctive blend of traditional culture and modern infrastructure.

Looking ahead, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization (GTO) will continue to strengthen exchanges with global partners and create diverse opportunities to showcase Gyeonggi’s MICE capabilities and content worldwide.
