From a Tobacco Manufacturing Plant to a Cultural Hub The Suwon Tobacco Manufacturing Plant, a symbol of modernization, produced an astonishing 110 billion cigarettes between 1971 and 2003. However, with the rapid advancement of industrial technology and the consolidation of factory facilities, operations ceased on March 14, 2003, leaving the building abandoned for nearly 20 years. A portion of the historic structure has been preserved and transformed into a vibrant cultural space for the citizens of Suwon.
